Trusting in a Relationship

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding
~ Proverbs 3:5

|T  R U S T | (noun) defined as firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something

I’ve been a part of many Facebook pages that help military wives and significant others, at least once a day I will read a post that sounds something like this:
“Hi I’m new to the military life and I just wanted to share a concern.  I know that my significant other will be around the opposite sex and that worries me.  I know it’s probably just me but I still have some worries.”

I scroll through the comments and some of them will say, “trust him and communicate”, others will say “you’re too young for a relationship because that’s military life”, while others will tell her “this is something that you will always go through because he will always be around other women.”  Yes your husband will be around other women, we all know that, but could it possibly be an internal issue and problem from the past causing our insecurities?  I learned in counseling we often struggle with trust when past relationships failed or someone we loved failed us.

It has been so heavy on my heart to share these encouraging words that my husband shared to me (not all are his words but some) to help you if trust is something you struggle with:

My daughter,
I was there when he hurt you and I was there when you cried.  Although these weren’t plans I had for your life, I knew you would be blessed with this courageous man who would love you and protect your heart from any hurt.  I see that you struggle with trusting him because of your past relationships and insecurities you often face, but remember that I chose him for you.  You were not given a blessing that would hurt you because I would never do that to your beautiful and sensitive heart.  I need you to trust Me because I know you better than he will ever know you.  I am there when He is gone in school, there when He is deployed, and I was there when he was in basic training.  Remember that I was there throughout everything.  Let go of what is out of your control because worrying never did anyone any good.  Let go of those insecurities and trust issues you face, come to me with all of this and I will give you rest.  Trust me with all your heart and don’t lean on your own understanding.
Love Your Father,

For His Glory,
